Ascension is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The WELS is a group of more than 330,000 men, women, and children in nearly 1,300 congregations across the United States and Canada united by a common faith in Christ’s saving love. We are committed to a common calling—encouraging each other in our faith and sharing God’s gift of a Savior with the rest of the world. In addition, the WELS is united in fellowship, meaning one in doctrine, with the Evangelical Lutheran Synod in the U.S. and with more than 30 other Lutheran church bodies around the world as a member of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference.

Through our partnership in the WELS, we’re able to support the training of new pastors and teachers, be a part of one of the largest prison ministries in America, and send missionaries all over the world to spread God’s Word. Through this network of global churches, we are able to create a worldwide impact for the Gospel that we could not do on our own as a local congregation.

What We Believe

The WELS is a Bible-believing Lutheran church body that worships the Triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). Want to take a deeper look at what the WELS believes and teaches? Find our full statement of beliefs, along with our stance to common spiritual topics on the WELS website.

Christian Aid & Relief

WELS Christian Aid & Relief is one of our synod’s compassion ministries that operates around the world. Their mission is to reflect Christ’s love to those who are hurting or in need. This mission is carried out through three main activities: disaster relief, humanitarian aid, and personal financial grants experiencing a major crisis.

Education

In addition to local area early learning centers, elementary schools, and high schools, the WELS operates two colleges and a seminary to equip and train future Christian leaders and pastors.
